Hereditary cancer screening looks at the genes you inherited from your parents to identify variants that raise your lifetime cancer risk. About 5–10% of cancers are hereditary - knowing whether you carry a high-risk variant lets you and your clinical team take proactive action: more frequent surveillance, risk-reducing surgery, lifestyle changes, or chemoprevention. Our panels cover all clinically actionable genes for each cancer type.

It's most useful for people with a personal or family history of cancer (especially before age 50, or multiple relatives affected), those of higher-risk ancestry (e.g. Ashkenazi Jewish for BRCA1/2), or anyone who simply wants to understand their inherited risk. Our genetic counsellor walks you through whether testing makes sense for your specific history.

Our panels test for pathogenic and likely-pathogenic variants in clinically validated cancer-risk genes, with > 99% analytical accuracy. Each variant is classified using ACMG guidelines and aligned with NHS Genomic Medicine Service standards. Results are reviewed by a clinical geneticist before being shared with you.

Standard turnaround is 17–21 working days from when the lab receives your sample. A clinical geneticist reviews each report before it's shared in a follow-up consultation. If a pathogenic variant is found, we discuss surveillance, prevention, and onward referral options at the same appointment.

If you have a strong family history, the counsellor may recommend a wider panel; if your risk is lower, a more focused one.
