FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What is NIPT and how does it work?

NIPT (non-invasive prenatal testing) analyses small fragments of your baby's DNA that circulate in the pregnant person's bloodstream. A simple blood draw can screen for chromosomal conditions (Down's, Edwards', Patau' syndromes), sex chromosome aneuploidies, and - depending on the test - microdeletions and rare monogenic disorders. No risk to the pregnancy.

Which NIPT should I choose?

It depends on what you want to know and at what depth. Aneuploidy NIPT (£295) covers the three most common trisomies and is the fastest-turnaround basic option. Panorama NIPT (£355) adds sex chromosomes and triploidy. Panorama Microdeletions (£525) and Niptify (£525) add microdeletion screening (5 and 20+ syndromes respectively). Unity Complete (£800) combines NIPT with carrier screening for both parents. KNOVA (£950) is our most comprehensive - 42 conditions across trisomies, microdeletions, and de novo / inherited monogenic disorders. A free 20-minute midwife consultation helps you pick the right one for your situation.

When during pregnancy can I take NIPT?

Most NIPTs are available from 9 or 10 weeks of pregnancy onwards. Only Panorama NIPT and Panorama Microdeletions start at 9 weeks; Aneuploidy NIPT, Unity, KNOVA, PrenatalSafe 3 UK, and Niptify start at 10 weeks. All are suitable for singleton pregnancies; some have additional restrictions (e.g. KNOVA isn't suitable beyond 16 weeks). Our midwife will confirm suitability in your free consultation.

How accurate is NIPT?

Detection rates exceed 99% for the most common trisomies (Down's syndrome / T21, Edwards' syndrome / T18, Patau' syndrome / T13). NIPT is a screening test, not diagnostic - high-risk results should be confirmed with a diagnostic procedure such as CVS or amniocentesis, which our genetic counsellor will discuss with you in a follow-up consultation if needed.

Do I need a GP referral for NIPT?

No referral required. Anyone aged 18+ can book a Jeen Health NIPT directly. The kit ships within one working day after your free midwife consultation, and a clinical geneticist reviews every report before it's shared with you.
