How accurate is NIPT?
It has very high detection rates for Down’s, Edwards’ and Patau’s syndromes but is still a screening test. It uses a maternal blood sample and does not affect the pregnancy
When can I take the test?
From 9 weeks of pregnancy. Although some labs do it from 10 weeks. It al depends on the test you choose during your consult with a midwife.
Where can I do NIPT in Northern Ireland?
The NHS may provide NIPT to high‑risk pregnancies. Private NIPT services like Jeen Health are available to anyone.
Do I need confirmatory testing?
Only if the result is high chance; diagnostic tests such as CVS or amniocentesis will confirm
